| SMTYRA 2010 RULE CHANGE HIGHLIGHTS AND OTHER NOTICES The following rules will be incorporated into our current SMTYRA General Rules and Event rules. This is a highlight of those changes that have been made by the Board of Directors for 2010. ******NOTE CHANGE*******PLEASE BE REMINDED THAT CONTESTANTS MUST ENTER AGE GROUPS BASED ON THEIR AGE AS JANUARY 1st TO COMPETE FOR POINTS. CONTESTANTS MAY NOT BUMP DOWN TO A YOUNGER AGE GROUP, HOWEVER CONTESTANTS MAY BUMP UP TO OLDER AGE GROUPS TO COMPETE FOR MONEY ONLY. NO POINTS ARE AWARDED FOR BUMPING UP. 1. SMTYRA will host 12 rodeos for the 2010 calender year (11 rodeos + the Finals in December) (See 2009 Calender for dates). 2. Members must complete 7 out of 11 rodeos to qualify for end-of-the year awards. 3. Qualifications for the Finals in December. 1) Member must complete 7 out of 11 rodeos. 2) Member must obtain a $50 sponsor 4. All-Around category 1) Must enter at least 2 events and a maximum of 4 events per rodeo. 2) Events must be listed at the beginning of the year and cannot be changed. 3) There will only be 1 All-Around award given. 4) The highest point winner will receive the award. 5. The highest fundraising cowboy will be named SMTYRA King, and the highest fundraising cowgirl will be SMTYRA Queen. 6. The highest fundraising member will receive an award saddle at the Finals in December. 7. We are implimenting a referral program. Each member who gets 3 people to sign-up and become members of SMTYRA will receive a waiver for 1 entry fee for 1 rodeo. 8. There will be a Gold Membership. The Membership will cost $400 (This is a savings of 10%).. This includes facility fees for the 11 rodeos, annual membership fee, and 3 events for all 11 rodeos. The deadline to turn in this Membership fee will be February 20, 2010. 9. There will be a Silver Membership. The Membership wil cost $260 (This is a savings of 10%). This includes facility fees for 7 rodeos, annual membership fee, and 3 events for 7 rodeos. The deadline to turn in the Silver Membership fee will be February 20, 2010. 10. Each member is required to obtain a sponsor for the 2010 calender year. The minimum sponosorship required in $50. However, the more money received the better the the awards banquet can be. Sponsorship forms and "Thank You" letters can be obtained on the website on the "Sponsor and Info" page. 11. There will be a "ZERO TOLERANCE" for safety violations. These include: tying horses inside the arena, starting the run in barrels, poles, and goat tying before entering the alley-way. Violation of these rules will result in a disqualification. 12. Horses will only be allowed inside the observation/holding area inside the arena during unmounted events. These events include but are not limited to: dummy roping, stick horse races, and goat ribbon pull. Violation of these rules will result in a 5 second penalty. Habitual offenders could LOSE POINTS for the day. 13. All distribution of money and prizes must be done under the supervision of one of the registration desk helpers. All money awarded must be signed-off on, and any small children claiming awards must be accompanied by an adult. 14. The electric eye will be the only source of timer that will be used for all age groups of barrel racing and pole bending. There will be no manual stop watch back up times. When the electric eye malfunctions and no time is recorded, contestants will be given a rerun at a time designated by the Judges and Arena Director. 15. DUMMY ROPERS WILL NOW BE DISQUALIFIED IF THE ROPE DOES NOT LEAVE THE HAND OF THE ROPER WHEN THROWING THE ROPE. THE ROPE CANNOT BE LAID ON THE DUMMY'S HEAD AND BE COUNTED AS A QUALIFIED CATCH. 16. MEMBERS MUST ATTEND AWARDS BANQUET TO RECEIVE PARTICIPATION AWARDS. 17. Please be reminded of the hat rule in the general rules section of the rule book. SMTYRA directors and officials will be watching this closely and issuing warnings for January and February. In March, five second penalties will be assessed for noncompliance. The rule book states that a contestant must have his/her hat or helmet on at the beginning of the run and must not purposely knock hat off or set hat on the back of the head. The use of stampede strings on hats is a suggestion. 18. The 6-8 age group has been added for the stick horse race. 19. The 6-8 age group has been added for our inexperienced competitors in the goat ribbon pull. ********A MEMBER CANNOT RETROACTIVELY GO TO THE GOAT RIBBON PULL ONCE THEY HAVE STARTING ANY OF THE GOAT TYING EVENTS.******* 20. Problems or questions about event results and payoffs must be addressed the day of the rodeo for any problem or error that may occur. Please address this to the ladies working the payoffs and event results. Questions or problems about points must be addressed in a 2 month period from the time that the points are posted.
